Abstract

Reactions of a chromium complex, featuring a Cr≡Si triple bond, with alkynes and butadiene were investigated. The former reaction yielded 4-membered metallasilacycles with a hom*oaromatic character through [2+2] cycloaddition, while the latter reaction afforded silacyclopentenyl complexes through [2+4] cycloaddition.

A neutral chromium silylyne complex, featuring a Cr≡Si bond, underwent [2+2] cycloaddition reactions with terminal and internal alkynes to yield 4-membered metallasilacycles, which were suggested to have a hom*oaromatic character based on nucleus independent chemical shift (NICS) values. The same chromium silylyne complex reacted with butadiene to afford silacyclopentenyl complexes through a [2+4] cycloaddition reaction.
