That's a wrap on the ASU+GSV Summit! The best part, of course, was time with our amazing team and wonderful colleagues and thought partners across Google and beyond! Can't wait for next year. 🌟

If you've been following AI news recently, then you know that now more than ever we need scholars, journalists, and activists to ask difficult questions about the role of technology in society, to leverage research and analysis to help us understand it, and to lean on each other to imagine and help to build more just and more equitable technological futures. There are few (I daresay no) opportunities quite like the Just Tech Fellowship, designed purposefully to give new voices the time, space, and resources to get down to this critical work without sacrificing their well-being in the process. Learn more about the Just Tech Fellowship (and broader program offerings) below and consider throwing your hat in the ring.

As the year comes to a close, I wanted to offer a small reflection from my still naive, 22 year old perspective. Buckle up, this is a long read. This year has been crazy. I graduated from CU in May, after spending my senior project outside of my department, and took a few grad level courses that really opened my eyes to the world of Linux and Network Systems (shoutout CJ Herman and Willem Schreuder for having easily my three favorite classes in college. Absolute hounds. I think about and reference my LSA and NS notes all the time). As I let out a sigh of relief that school was done, I started to worry about work on the horizon. Am I good enough? Do I really know what I’m doing, and will I ruin something important for someone important? I always took school seriously and made an effort to truly learn things, but it never felt like enough. These questions rang through my head constantly and, frankly, still do. Even after receiving awards at work and kudos, I still can’t shake the feeling that I don’t know enough. But I’m beginning to realize that’s a feeling we live with, and is more to do with ambition for more knowledge than lack of knowledge.Additionally, my time with Lockheed Martin has been incredible. I’ve been with them 6 months now and have loved all the crazy aspects of this new position. The culture in my department is one of learning and they have shown me clearly that my journey is on their mind, and they have a vested interest in my success. Never let your employer fall short of this—if they do, the company will eventually fail. It’s toxic. Another shoutout to the people in my lab— you know who you are and y’all are ballers. I’m not sure if anyone is really gonna read all of this, but for those who did, and for those who need to hear it—You are good enough, you are intelligent enough, and imposter syndrome can just be a driving force for more learning. Be your best. Happy holidays yall. <3. You are loved.
