Plus with 2 month data rollover, I expect to downgrade my spouse's plan a lot for month 7 and 8 at the minimum, which puts me into next July or so
Yeah, the cost I noted was worst case (most expensive) scenario. I've had lines with the majority of brands now so I expect some regularly scheduled promos or winback offers before next BF.

Looks like my issues have been resolved, able to make and receive calls on both ported numbers from public mobile to fizz…took 4 days on 1 and 3 days on the other but working now.

You need to contact them via chat to get a ticket created. This is beta testing, so you need to tell them about the problems in order to get action.

Finally got Phonebox coordinated and my number released. Took them ages, but the port went through when I activated.
No problem with inbound or outbound calls & SMS so far.
Promised I'd post a couple of speedtest results from YEG. 72 Mbps down through Telus. Almost double of 132 Mbps through Rogers. Higher than expected ping as data routing through QC. Tests performed in South Edmonton, Friday evening.
As others have mentioned, came to $5.xx with the 911 fee.

The Fizz SIM profile has been programmed to only show Fizz-EXT. If you dial *#*#4636#*#* on your phone app you'll get into a service menu. Scroll to the bottom and you'll see an MCC code (302) and an NMC code. The MNC code is reporting the network you are currently connected to.
610 Bell
720 Rogers
220 Telus
See https://mcc-mnc.net/ for a more detailed list.

Wish that there was a setting where you can get the network you are roaming on displayed permanently in the statusbar.

Oh, there is a setting. It is called 4EON (for Extended Off Network). However it can only be enabled by the carrier.
Some carriers will switch it for you. I had asked AT&T to do it for me for my roaming US SIM, and they did. It didn't want to see AT&T-ext all the time. Now it shows me Bell, Rogers or Telus, whichever I choose to connect to.
You can read about it in Step 3 of this Reddit Guide. I don't know if it is called the same thing at Fizz, or if they would be willing to enable it.

I have the AT&T prepaid plan for work and I have this enabled. Guess we'll have to wait for someone on Reddit to figure out how to work this with Fizz before we attempt it

I contacted support via live chat about this today.
Was told it was not an option :-(
The agent only seemed to know about Manual Network Selection.

Just finished setup on a cheap version of the plan; voice, text, and 5 GB data, Canada-only, for a kids emergency use plan. Pretty straightforward in general. Total with 911 fees and tax is $4.15/month for 6 months.
I set it up on an old Pixel 2, and despite the constant warnings about device compatibility it worked fine. The Pixel 2 is VoLTE-capable, but not "certified" as such by Fizz (which is nonsense). But the 3G network seems to be fine and for a really cheap phone plan we'll try it out; can always cancel down the road. I'm in the greater Edmonton area and had no trouble getting a number assigned.

I was just trying to tether to my son's tablet. Everything seems to be working fine. He was just surprised he was getting French ads on his YouTube. I suppose it's because the traffic is routed through Quebec. I am located in Alberta.

Does the Android visual voicemail Fizz app work for anyone? I can't get past the "get started" screen, it keeps giving me an error. I've filed a support ticket, but all they're saying is to make sure the APN settings are correct (they are), and to uninstall and reinstall the app (I've tried that three times). Maybe someone had a better experience with this than I have so far?

I believe it's under "Manage my plan" and "moving".

It works on a pixel 8, I didn't recall any issues setting it up

Went to Metrotown today in Burnaby BC. Data speeds around the outside was good, but as soon as I got inside, there was almost like no data at all. I have a full 3 bars while I was inside, so it's not a signal problem. I kinda expected this since it is a beta, but having 0 data access at all was a little frustrating.
