Cedar City lets freedom ring with Independence Day parade (2024)

CEDAR CITY — Thousands of people lined the streets of downtown Cedar City on Thursday morning for Cedar Lion’s Club’s annual Independence Day parade.

The procession featured dozens of patriotic entries, beginning with a color guard comprising Civil Air Patrol cadets and members of the Utah National Guard.

Also featured near the beginning were the dozen or so “Spirit of ‘76” floats, many of them depicting pivotal moments in the nation’s early history.

Other entries included youth sports teams, dance groups, rodeo and pageant royalty, Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops, classic cars and tractors, and various local businesses.

At the very end, an array of fire engines, their lights flashing and horns and sirens blaring, capped off the 90-minute procession.

After the parade ended, many folks gathered at Main Street Park, where the festivities continued with various activities, including live music by the Cedar City Community Band, bounce houses, a dunk tank, and various food and vendor booths.
