AUSTIN (KXAN) — Several more Central Texas cities will have high temperatures this afternoon at or slightly above 100°. Look for another mainly sunny sky with south winds 5 to 10 mph.

Most highs will continue in the upper 90s to around 100° through Friday.

A weak cold front is forecast into the area late in the week pushing a few showers and isolated thunderstorms in parts of the area Friday into the weekend. Rain chances are low.

A chance of more showers and isolated thunderstorms pops in Monday’s forecast. The Monday outlook depends on where Beryl will head when it moves into the Gulf during the weekend.

Hurricane Beryl is a Category 5 hurricane

Winds of Hurricane Beryl dropped back to 160 mph late this morning. The 10 a.m. update from the National Hurricane Center places the center of the hurricane within 555 miles ESE of Kingston, Jamaica. It is still moving to the WNW at 22 mph.

While the National Hurricane Center has the center of Beryl (by then a tropical storm) making landfall on the upper coast of Mexico, at least four or five models take the storm to the lower half of the Texas coast. Water temperatures in the Gulf off of Corpus Christi are in the upper 80s making it prime for increased development.

We will have a better idea once we get to Friday afternoon to Saturday morning.

The eventual path of Beryl will depend on the strength (or lack thereof) of high pressure due to shift to our east through the week.
